Deadline for art competition May 4
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The deadline to enter the annual Congressional Art Competition is May 4.
The contest is open to high school students. Original works must be sent to U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre’s Bolivia, Lumberton, Fayetteville or Wilmington district offices by the deadline.
The winning entry will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol complex in Washington, D.C. The winning student will also receive round trip airline tickets to see their artwork on display. Second place entries will be displayed in McIntyre’’s Washington office, and the third place entry will be displayed in Congressman McIntyre’’s district office closest to their home.

Free movie at the plaza Friday
LUMBERTON — “Despicable Me” will be shown on the big screen at 8 p.m. on Friday in the plaza downtown.
Admission is free, and hot dogs, popcorn and soda will be for sale. Bring lawn chairs.

Lumber River Day to be held July 16
