LUMBERTON — Applications for the North Carolina Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program are due to the Carolina Civic Center Foundation by 5 p.m. on July 1.
Grants, given to Robeson County arts organizations, are between $2,000 and $5,000 and support local cultural projects that occur between July 1, 2011, and June 30, 2012.
A free GAP grant-writing workshop will be held at 5:30 p.m. on June 1 at the Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater in Lumberton. It will address the entire application process, including project criteria, partnering, project narrative and budgeting.
Grant applications must be sent by mail to the Carolina Civic Center at P.O. Box 844, Lumberton, N.C. 28359, or delivered to the offices at 315 N. Chestnut St. in downtown Lumberton.

LUMBERTON — The deadline to enter the North Carolina Strawberry Association’s Kids’ Strawberry Art Contest is Wednesday.
The contest, which asks children to draw anything that relates to strawberries or a strawberry farm, is open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. There will be cash prizes in several age categories.

FAIRMONT — A Memorial Day remembrance ceremony will held at the Heritage Center in Fairmont from noon until 1 p.m. on May 30.
There will be a guest speaker, a flag ceremony performed by Army Reservists, poems, songs by Lauren Miller, and the handing out of ceremonial poppies.
LUMBERTON — Jim Quick & Coastline will play from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the plaza in downtown Lumberton as the two-part Lunchtime on the Plaza series ends.
Bag lunches of a grilled burger, chips, a dessert and soda will be for sale for $3.50 between those times.
