LUMBERTON — The Greenstate Garden Gallery is offering a way to get in the holiday spirit and get your hands dirty.

On Saturday starting at 10 a.m., the retail garden center will offer free seminars on inventive ways to carve a pumpkin, make do-it-yourself fire pits and arrange oriental floral designs.

Jan Tedder-Rogers, manager of Greenstate Garden Gallery, says the seminars offer something that everyone can take home.

“It’s about what makes a garden special — different design ideas you can color and texture.”

The schedule is as follows: how to make a fall and winter mixed container at 10 a.m.; do-it-yourself fire pits and how to make ikebana floral arrangements at 11 a.m.; landscape ideas at noon; and pumpkin carving and decorating ideas at 2 p.m.

From noon to 2 p.m. owner Keith Taylor will diagnose plant problems, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., local artists will display their jewelry and crafts.

“We are also offering the easiest and neatest way to carve pumpkins,” Tedder-Rogers said. “We’ve got something really cool. We have an award-winning tutorial on how to carve pumpkins.”

People can watch the video and carve pumpkins with the free patterns the store is giving out. The patterns allow people to transfer an image onto a pumpkin for easy carving.
