SMRC to hold 2 forums
LUMBERTON — Southeastern Regional Medical Center will host two community meetings to gather information for its board of trustees to use during a strategic planning meeting in early 2013.
The first community meeting will be held Tuesday at Providence Place located at 702 E. Third Ave. in Red Springs. The second is scheduled for Nov. 13 at the Fairmont-South Robeson Heritage Center located at 207 S. Main St. in Fairmont.
Both events will offer refreshments and networking opportunities beginning at 6:30 p.m.; the feedback portion of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. Each event will include small group discussions on local health issues as well as a larger group discussion on the impact of health in each community and a review of barriers and unique strengths related to improving health.
Cancer Center sets Pink Tea
LUMBERTON — Gibson Cancer Center, an affiliate of Southeastern Regional Medical Center, is hosting a Pink Tea on Wednesday in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event will be held at the center, which is located at 1200 Pine Run Drive in Lumberton, from 9 to 11 a.m. and will include refreshments, door prizes and fellowship. SMRC hosts open houses
LUMBERTON — Southeastern Regional Medical Center is hosting open house events for its two newest clinics — Southeastern Medial Clinic Red Springs and Southeastern Medical Clinic Gray’s Creek.
The open house in Red Springs will be held Wednesday; the open house in Gray’s Creek on Thursday. Both events will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and will offer refreshments.

Caregiver seminar to be held
LUMBERTON — Representatives from The Alzheimer’s Association and AARP will visit New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church on Wednesday to discuss ways that caregivers can ensure those affected by memory loss are getting the most out of their later years. The event starts at 6:30 p.m.

LUMBERTON — Southeastern Urgent Care Lumberton offers flu shot clinics Mondays through Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m. The Dr. A.J. Robinson Medical Clinic offers flu shot clinics on Tuesdays through Nov. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m.
No appointment is necessary. The cost of the vaccine is $20. Insurance will be filed for individuals who present their private insurance or Medicare/Medicaid card.

LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Substance Abuse Coalition is hosting an Alcohol and Drug Free Youth Rally for students in grades ninth through 12th on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Southeastern Pavilion off of U.S. 74
The event will include a DJ, refreshments and door prizes. Students are asked to bring three canned goods for the Robeson County Church and Community Center and school ID is required.
LUMBERTON — Southeastern Mobile Medical will be stationed at the following locations at the dates listed: Monday and Tuesday, Mill Branch Baptist Church, Fairmont; Wednesday, Floyd’s Temple Number One, Lumberton.
Family nurse practitioner Nantachie Chavis is the lead medical provider for the mobile unit, which offers primary care and preventative care services, including disease management, vaccinations, routine checkups, treatment for acute and episodic illnesses and injuries, wellness exams, and laboratory analysis.
The mobile unit operates from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Appointments are not required but may be scheduled by calling (910) 674-6144.
