Billy Allen

St. Pauls

Billy E. Allen, 77, of St. Pauls, died Nov. 14, 2011, at home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of St. Pauls, the Rev. Pat Hash officiating. Burial will follow in Great Marsh Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of St. Pauls, he was born April 3, 1934, to the late Herbert Vance Sr. and Bertie Kinlaw Allen. He served in the U.S. Army and received the Army of Occupation, Germany Medal. Allen was one of the co-founders of Big Marsh Fire Department, serving as chairman of the board in 2002. He devoted 20 years to the department, until his retirement. A former member of the Lions Club, he was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He owned and operated City Insurance Agency of St. Pauls for 40 years. Allen was an active member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Allen of the home; a daughter, Angie Matthes and her husband Ron, botha of Fuquay-Varina; two stepsons, Joey McDuffie and his wife Kasia of Grays Creek and Ken McDuffie of St. Pauls; two granddaughters, Katie Matthes and Karlie McDuffie; a sister, Helen Dye of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Covington of Virginia and Christine Monroe of Maxton.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home.

Carolyn Sue Harris Lowry, 68, of Supply, died Nov. 14, 2011, at New Hanover Regional Medical Cetner in Wilmington.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Revels Funeral Home Chapel in Lumberton, the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Locklear officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Surviving are two sons, Perry Neville of Pembroke and Kevin Neville of Ash; a daughter, Nina Faulk of Tennessee; a brother, Woodrow Harris Jr. of Pembroke; three sisters, Deborah Cummings of Pembroke, and Freda Harris Strickland and Christie Jacobs, both of Lumberton; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Revels Funeral Home in Lumberton.
