LUMBERTON — A Cumberland County man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run death that happened in August, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Michael Mintor, 46, of Fairway Drive, Hope Mills, was cited on Sept. 19 by the Highway Patrol with failure to report an accident and driving with a restricted driver’s license, according to the Robeson County Clerk of Court’s Office.

The citations were for a hit-and-run accident that killed Glenn Miller, 58, of 2971 Orbie Circle, Fayetteville. Miller was found dead in a ditch about a mile north of Lumber Bridge off of Glenn Road on Aug. 2 at about 5 p.m.

According to the Highway Patrol Sgt. GB. Parrish, Miller may have been laying dead in the ditch for several days before his body was found.

Sgt. Benton Nance with the Highway Patrol said that Mintor was not charged with Miller’s death because it appeared that Miller was in the road when he was struck.

There were two other hit-and-run fatalities in Robeson County during August, both occurring on the same days as Miller’s body was found, Aug. 2.

According to the patrol, 34-year-old Darren Bethea of 462 Brockington Road, Fairmont, was killed when he was hit by a vehicle on Turkey Branch Road.

According to Lumberton police, Ashley Smith, 23, of 205 Ball Park Road, Lumberton, died when she struck while standing near her vehicle on the shoulder of the northbound lane on Interstate 95. Her boyfriend, Broderick Jones, who was 30 years old at the time, of Spruce Street, was injured. The car had been disabled by a flat tire.

No one has been charged in connection with either of those deaths.
