LUMBERTON — A Lumberton man has been arrested and charged with raping a 62-year-old woman in her home, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Mark Anthony Sampson, 48, of 507 Pine Log Road, was arrested at his home Monday afternoon and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, and first-degree burglary, according to a sheriff’s report.

According to the report, the woman was awakened by a knock at her door at 1 a.m. Monday. The report said that Sampson asked the woman for money, jewelry, and a ride. She said she could not help him, but finally told him that he could use her phone from outside, according to the report.

The report said Sampson snatched open her screen door, forced his way inside, grabbing the woman and dragging her into a bedroom. He hit her in the face, choked her, and raped her. He then forced her to drive him home.

The woman and her family reported the alleged assault to the Sheriff’s Office later that day.

The report said that the woman had substantial bruising on her neck and face.

Sampson is being held under a $100,000 bond.

You want to help people. I don't want anyone to be stranded outside late at night. If I open my door to help, I will have a 357 in my hand and if you attempt to harm me when I am trying to help you then God help us both.

I hope they throw the book at this dirt bag. It would be great if they could lock away scum like this for the rest of their natural lives. Unfortunately, this scum will be back out on the streets before too long and the little old lady and her family will be traumatized for life. When he is locked up wouldn't it be ironic if someone would beat him down and give him some of his own medicine:)
