LUMBERTON — Police responding to reports of gunfire Monday night found a 22-year-old Orrum man dead in a public housing complex.

Clifton Jones, of 628 Wire Grass Road in Orrum, had been shot multiple times, according to Lt. Johnny Barnes with the Lumberton Police Department. Police found Jones’ body shortly after 11:30 p.m. in the Weaver Court housing area on Freedom Drive.

Barnes said police responded after several people called 911 to report hearing gunshots. An autopsy will be conducted.

Barnes said the investigation is just beginning, and that as of this morning no potential witnesses had been interviewed.

Its a shame that all these guys are killing each other. The bad part about it, evreybody grew up together and hung around each other. I just don't see myself killing some one that I done grew up with. Thats nonsense. These young people now, they don't do the things I was doing when me and my friends grew up. We use to build clubhouses and find plum trees to eat plums, but now in 2009, they trying to save up money to buy guns. I am trying my best to get my children and myself up and out of Lumberton. Its getting out of control and only God can fix it.

I was raised as a child in Detroit and it doesn't get any rougher than that... Many people said and still say negative things about Detroit and unfortunately what they say are true... Crime costs tax payers money and that hurts. If you live in a "bad" neighborhood - people will talk about what happens there...

I am a young adult who has grown up on the Southside of Lumberton my whole life. I am disgusted with some of the comments that people can make and not know one single thing that is going on. Yes there is violence always going on but that doesn't give people the right to judge others whom they do not know. I actually know Cliff and the other young men who were charged in other killings in the Southside of Lumberton because I grew up with them. No one, not even me knows who did what or who was there so I feel as though no comments should be made about how they lived their lives. Yes he may have been charged with something before but that still gives no one the right to kill someone. I feel like God gives life but he does not give them so that other people can take them. I am very fortunate to have been able to beat the statistics being a young black female from Lumberton Southside and I feel as though if you were never brought up there or do not have a clue to why these things are happening then please do not comment on peoples lives. I am very hurt and disgusted with the comments that were made earlier. This young man may have been in trouble during his life but that does not give people the right to talk about what he did and consequences that should be made. You have NO CLUE about what is going on and if you have such a big problem with the violence than how about you try to come together with some of the community of Southside Lumberton and come up with a plan that could help end violence!!!!!!

RIP CLIFF....You will be truly missed...No matter what people say about this young man he was always the nicest gentleman!!!!!

The very same night, someone was shot in Lumbee Homes. They are constantly shooting out there. Prayers go out to the family. Yes, everyone has the right to state their opinion. So do not take it personal when someone talks stupid! Do not waste your time getting angry when you read these comments. It's not worth it!

Everyone has a right to state thier viewpoint on this matter, but until your are in this certain type of situations, you do not know anything or could not possibly feel anything towards this! and to you saying let them all kill each other, you never know if your family member will be riding by when something like this happens and is wrongfully killed this is a matter that the community needs to stop judging and get up off of their own selfish needs and do something.

I am so sick and tired of the same people making comments about anything that envolves a black man on the southside of Lumbeton....Yall need to get a life. Its obvious that you all don't have anything better to do but to seat at home waiting to check the site. The gang crimes stopped along time ago...the only one thats stuck on that lifestyle is yall. Just do me a favor and walk a mile in any of the shoes of the people that you have so much to say about and let me know how it goes. Also stop bringing up those 4 young men{Note: There are more than 4 people locked up behind those murders} in everything that has happened 'on the other side of the tracks' because I still don't understand what they have to do with Clifton Jones losing his life....oh I know now...NOTHING!!! So stop being so NEGATIVE and give this young man the respect he is do...because All in All your opinion doesn't matter the Master...God Almighty has the final say so!

End of Discussion..Point..Blank..Period

Get out of the way, stand back, and let 'em ALL kill each other and be done with it! Who cares as long as they're killing each other. Everytime one of them kills one of the others they've committed a patriotic act. The police shouldn't waste 5 minutes on such tripe.

tellinlikeitis, first you really should get the facts first, but you did get one thing alleged, I know for a fact that the allegations your talking about are not true, but I refuse to speak on it. God knows the truth and thats what matters. Who do you think you are, right now none of that matters. He is dead and Im pretty sure you wouldn't like it if someone destroyed one of your family members reputation before they hit the ground. Oh now I guess your going to right back now with some thing real smart to say. Im just telling you not arguing with you that the allegations are not true if you only knew what really happened you would be quit and Oh yea it didnt happen but when the charges came he wasn't even 18yrs old yet. Mr. tellinit where are you getting your info from. Im getting it from what I know not what I read and I just ask you to be more considerate this is still someone's child, father, brother etc...

Of course the cost of a murder trial is expensive. So is the exponential cost of incarceration. Perhaps if these "gangsta" folk just keeping taking one another out, it will save the taxpayers money and society can be safe for the average folks once again.

Southern Yankee you are right, but there are also those families out there who will be glad to know that this gangsta has gotten his justice. This individual has a history as an alleged murderer and child molester. And when it is all said and done you will find out that gang involvement was the ultimate cause of his death... Live by the sword, you die by the sword.

The cost of a murder trial can go up to over a millian dollars. It would healthier and safer for residents in public housing if a police unit was maintained to monitor high crime areas. That man's life can never be given back to him and his family's pain is just now beginning.

Can anyone see what's going on? Gang members in Weaver Court jealous of gang members in Turner Terrace so let the killings begin. There are 4 young men locked up in the TT shooting deaths, none have been labeled as gang members which would give them a longer sentence if found guilty. Let's get these guys labeled so they won't be able to come back at age 36 and start where they stopped. Natural life in prison.
