LUMBERTON — A Whiteville man will serve up to two years in prison for a fire that gutted his ex-wife’s Rowland home, according to Robeson County sheriff’s Lt. Brian Duckworth.
Roscoe McCollum, 59, of Best Alley in Whiteville, pleaded guilty to burning of personal property on Tuesday for setting the July 1, 2006, fire at the home of Annie Lewis, of 150 Melbourne Drive, Duckworth said. McCollum was brought to court from Columbus County after a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to Duckworth.
McCollum poured gasoline throughout the home and set fire to the gasoline jug after he was asked to leave, according to Duckworth. Duckworth said the fire was handled by a previous arson detective and he was not able to locate witnesses until about a year ago. The District Attorney’s Office “helped push it through,” he said.
