Mitchell I. Cox Sr., 62, formerly of Lumberton, N.C. died Dec. 21, 2006 following a brief illness.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kernan Boulevard Baptist Church, Pastor Ronnie McKenzie officiating. Interment will follow, with military honors, in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens.
Born in Lumberton, N.C., Cox was a resident of Jacksonville for more than 30 years where he worked for Dedmon Masonry, Inc. Cox was a faithful Christian and member of the Kernan Boulevard Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Vietnam and upon his discharge in the early 1970's, he worked as a police officer and as a Secret Service agent in Washington, D.C.
His family said he was “a loving and faithful husband, father, and grandfather.”
Surviving are his devoted wife, JoAnn; three sons, Mitch Cox and his wife, Yvette, James Cox, and Ike Cox; two daughters, Tammy Cox and Jill Erazo; two brothers, Albert and his wife, Sybil and Ronnie; two sisters, Josie and Georgia Rose and her husband, Kelton; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorials may be made to the building fund at Kernan Boulevard Baptist Church or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home
in Jacksonville.
