PEMBROKE — Purnell Swett's 24 seniors who took the field and beat Lumberton in the ‘Backyard Brawl’, played their last home game of the season Friday night at Big ‘Mo’ Strickland Stadium.
The Rams (9-2, 3-2 Southeastern) received the No. 11 seed in the 4-A East Bracket on Saturday when the North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced its football playoff field.
Swett goes on the road to face six-seeded Durham Hillside on Friday. The Hornets, a member of the PAC-6 Conference, are 8-3 overall and currently own a five-game winning streak.
Lumberton (7-4, 3-2 SEC) who finished third in the Southeastern Conference, will play at home against South View in a No. 10 vs. No. 7 matchup in the 4-AA East Bracket. The Tigers are 6-5 and will carry a three-game winning streak into Alton G. Brooks Stadium.
The Three Rivers Conference champion Fairmont Golden Tornadoes (4-6, 4-1) earned a No. 4 seed in the 2-A East and will square off at home against No. 13-seed Franklinton.
St. Pauls (2-9, 2-3 TR) made the postseason as a No. 16 in the 2-AA East Bracket and battle top seed East Duplin on the road. East Duplin is unbeaten at 11-0.
The South Robeson Mustangs (4-7, 2-3) will play at Goldsboro in the 1-AA East Bracket, a contest pitting the No. 15 and No. 2 rated teams. The Cougars are 4-2 at home this season and 9-2 overall.
