TARBORO — Nelda Nall Cleveland, 85, passed away Feb. 1, 2013, at Southeastern Hospice House.

A celebration of life will be 3 p.m. Monday at the chapel at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

Previously she resided at The Fountains at the Albemarle in Tarboro.

Nelda devoted her entire life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was affectionately known as “Nana” by her family. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Nelda graduated from Birmingham Southern in Alabama with a major in music. Her proudest musical accomplishment was playing her violin in Carnegie Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jesse Mae Nell of Greenville, Ala.; and her husband, Thomas H. Cleveland Sr.

Nelda is survived by her daughter, Mary and husband Phil McCumbee of Battleboro; three sons, Tom and wife LouAnn Cleveland of Lumberton, Bill and wife Peggy Cleveland of Hamlet, and Dan Cleveland of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Mary Belle and husband Tom Yardley of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Monday before the service at the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southeastern Hospice House, 1100 Pine Run Drive, Lumberton, N.C., 28358, or a hospice of your choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount.
