Veterans Day

parade Saturday

PEMBROKE — The town’s annual Veterans Day Parade will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Following the parade, a flag-raising ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Pembroke Town Park and a fish and chicken plate sale from noon to 3 p.m. at the VFW building on Union Chapel Road. Retired Maj. General John Atkinson of the National Guard will speak at the flag-raising ceremony.

The parade lines up at 9 a.m. at the Pembroke Elementary School and ends at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke’s Given’s Performing Arts Center.

Reflections

is tonight

LUMBERTON — The Lumber River Council of Governments will hold a Candlelight Reflections service from 6 to 7 tonight in its conference room at 30 C.J. Walker Road in COMtech Park in Pembroke.

The service, sponsored by N.C. Alzheimer’s Inc. and the N.C. Family Caregiver Support Program, is held to honor and support all family caregivers. It is free and open to the public.

Groundbreaking

event is Friday

PEMBROKE — The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Tribal District 5 Community Center on Friday at 11:30 a.m.

It will be held at the intersection of Prospect and Island Grove Church roads. District 5 serves the Prospect and Oxendine communities. Refreshments will be served. For information, call Kelly Locklear at (910) 522-2187.

Free health

screening set

FAIRMONT — There will be free health screenings on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Southeastern Medical Clinic Fairmont located at 101 N. Walnut St.

Checks for total cholesterol/HDL, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index will be offered to all adults 18 years and older. Call 910-671-5595 for information.

Tribe sets

open house

PEMBROKE — The Lumbee Veterans Affairs Office will hold an open house at its new location at the COMtech Park in Pembroke on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The new office is located at 3 Hunts Drive, 78-D, directly across from the VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic. Refreshments will be served. For information, call 910-522-2210.
