Roy Linwood “Chicken” Leake, 76, formerly of Maxton, died Aug. 30, 2012.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Morris Funeral Home in Laurinburg, the Rev. Robert Fairley officiating. Burial will follow in the New Holly Cemetery.

Surviving are his children, Clarissa and Barry Leake; a sister, Mary Alice Stroud; and a brother, Eddie Leake.

Red Springs

Roscoe Steve Tolar, 65, of 120 Prince Charles St., died Sept. 4, 2012, in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Alloway Cemetery, the Rev. Bradley Boberg officiating.

Surviving are his mother, Ruth T. Tyner of Red Springs; and a brother, Jack B. Tolar of Hope Mills.

The visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Crumpler Funeral Home in Red Springs.

Barbara Butler

Dublin

Barbara Butler Jackson, 31, of Dublin, died Sept. 4, 2012.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Tolarsville Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her parents, Gerald and Ramona Butler; three sisters, Shanna B. Stillabower, Melissa B. Arhelger, and Michelle B. Hollingsworth; a brother, Michael D. Fincannon Jr.; and two children, Victoria Jackson and Joshua Jackson.

The visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home in St. Pauls.

JoAnn “Nucy’ Locklear, 64, of 310 Clifford Road, died Sept. 4, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m Friday at Heritage Funeral Home, Red Springs, the Revs. Scottie Deal and Greg Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxendine Cemetery in Pembroke.

Surviving are a son, Trent Locklear of Red Springs; three daughters, Vickie Locklear of Lumberton, Annie McMillian of Pembroke and Ericka Teets of Red Springs; five brothers, James Jones of Maxton, Vardell Jones and Don Locklear, both of Red Springs, Earl Locklear of Lumberton, and Bobby Locklear, of Salisbury; and a sister, Roseanna Jones of Pembroke.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Heritage Funeral Home, Red Springs.

David Smith

David Smith, 79, of 2265 McPhail Road, died Sept. 2, 2012, at Southeaster Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m Saturday at Floyd’s Temple No. 1 United Holiness Church, with burial to follow in the Meadowblock Cemetery in Lumberton.

He survived by his wife, Maggie Smith of Lumberton; six sons, David, Charles, Wendell, Wayne, Ricky and Shavon Smith, all of Lumberton; five daughters, Agnes Moore, Sarah Regan, Sandra Smith, Doris Baxley and Tammy Smith of Lumberton; a brother, Gray Smith of Lumberton; 42 granchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Colvin Funeral Home & Cremation, Lumberton.

Betty Covington

Betty Covington, 68, formerly of Laurinburg, died Aug. 31, 2012.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fletcher Grove MBC in Laurinburg, the Rev. Dorothy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Scotland Cemetery.

Surviving are three daughters, Anitha Covington, Theresa Jackson and Betty Hill, all of New York; three brothers; seven sisters, including Martha Covington Lee of Laurinburg; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at McPhatter Funeral Home Chapel in Laurel Hill.

Harvey R. Jones Sr., of 390 Square Lane, died Sept. 4, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday in Boles Funeral Home & Cremation Chapel in Red Springs, the Revs. Hedrick Jones, Gary Deese, Terry Mitchell and William Burns officiating.

Surviving are two sons, Harvey Jones Jr. and Nikoma Jones, both of Shannon; a daughter, Shavonna Clark of Red Springs; a brother, David Jones of Shannon; two sisters, Lisa Jones and Rose Jones, both of Shannon; and two grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
