FAIRMONT — A man was injured Friday night in what police are saying was a gang-related shooting.

Chris Singletary, 19, of Atkinson Road in Orrum, was struck by a bullet that grazed the back of his head as he was leaving Meadow Woods Apartments around 9:40 p.m., according to Fairmont police.

According to police Lt. David Windom, Singletary was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Impala when he encountered a group of men walking down the street. One of the men used a small-caliber weapon to fire a shot through the passenger’s side window.

Singletary, who was alone in the car, was treated and released from Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

No arrest has been made. Windom said that victim and witnesses have given conflicting stories, complicating the investigation.

To: Saynotogangs,

I don't care what the Robeson County Sheriff says gangs are in Robeson County. It is the responsibility of the citizens to be aware of their surroundings and report illegal or suspicious activity. You can bet your bottom dollar in todays society if a young person is involved in a shooting it is gang related. I don't think the shooting of the principal in Fairmont was gang related at all. People speak out against gangs in schools all the time.

My mother was driving down a road just off 5th St. in Lumberton near Food Lion when she saw a male with a hood on ducked down behind a truck looking around the side of the truck. She said he then stood up and had a shot gun in his hand right after a car pulled into a driveway near the man. She steped on the gas and got past the area then called 911. She told my niece about what happened and she said that area was known to have gangs in it. So it looks as though this problem is only getting worse. My Mom said she will never take that short cut again through there.

I thought the sheriff said that there was not a gang problem in Robeson County. What do you call this(shot to the head) and the incident on August 7th in Red Springs where the lady got shot (in the face) also. And what about the principal that was shot in the face in April? It is possible that is was gang related also.
