RED SPRINGS — A Red Springs man is being held in the Robeson County jail under a $100,000 bond after shooting a 22-year-old in the side, according to Red Springs Police Chief Ronnie Patterson.

Donchez Campbell, also 22, of 524 Milk Dairy Road, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in the New Year’s Eve shooting that sent Stephan Johnson to Duke University Medical Center, according to Patterson.

Patterson said that Johnson saw Campbell shooting into his home on Eighth Avenue and was then hit in the side. No one else in the home was injured. It is unclear how many people were in the home at the time.

Johnson is in stable condition at the Duke hospital, Patterson said. He said more charges against Campbell may be forthcoming when the investigation is complete.

Campbell has previously been charged in 2008, 2011 and 2012 for contempt of court, armed robbery and trespassing.
