To the Editor,
A nation has mourned the murders of countless victims in our country. The National Rifle Association has said put a police officer in every school.
I really don’t think that the NRA has ever been to Robeson County. We might be one of the poorest counties in the nation, but we love our children and there have been resource officers in our school system for years. The Public Schools of Robeson County is way ahead of those school systems in this nation that will return from the holidays to find the first armed resource officers in their schools. These officers have been a part of our schools for many years.
I have to say thank you to the Public Schools of Robeson County for keeping our children safe.
When the government did away with the majority of care for the mentally ill, the prisons in our state became the new mental hospitals. One day it will dawn on them that mental illness does not go away with a budget cut. If anything, it gets worse.
While the government is busy putting armed officers in the schools, Congress should remember they are the ones who took God out of the schools and took away the parents’ rights to take their child to the woodshed for a good spanking.
