PEMBROKE — Peace in the Park brings another act to town during its Thursday night free concert series — Jeanne Jolly.

According to Metro Magazine in Raleigh, Jolly, a classically trained vocalist, has a voice like “the delicate lilt of Alison Krauss.”

Charly Lowry, an organizer of the event as well as the lead singer of the local indie rock group Dark Water Rising, says that attendants will have the chance to hear a “world-class voice” from a songstress with “great stage presence and songwriting skills.”

“Jeanne is very personable and has a warm spirit,” Lowry said. “She’s eager to be a part of the series and to meet the people of our communities. “

Peace in the Park, which takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday in September at Pembroke Town Park, will also feature a candlelight vigil set to live acoustic music from 8:30 to 9 p.m. to honor victims of domestic violence and abuse.

Upcoming performances include vocalist and pianist Jana on Sept. 20 and Dark Water Rising on Sept. 27.

The forecast for Thursday is partly cloudy with highs in the mid-8os and lows in the mid-60s.
