Robeson County Public Library is committed to providing the services that reflect the needs, values and vision of our communities.
This year, the State Library has launched a statewide community needs assessment pilot project, and our library system was one of eight selected as a lead participant.
Over the coming weeks we will invite the public to share their opinions, experiences and suggestions for the library by participating in a survey or focus group. The survey will be posted on our website at www.robesoncountylibrary.org on Wednesday and available at all public libraries in Robeson County.
Dates, locations and times for focus group discussions will be announced. Regardless of whether you use the library or not, your participation is greatly appreciated. Information gathered during this process will help us improve the way we operate your libraries.
The Robeson County Public Library has an exciting new workshop series designed to help get “Every Child Ready to Read.”
Research shows that children who develop essential language and other early literacy skills before they start kindergarten become better readers. Children who do not know these skills when they begin school have a more difficult time learning to read.
The workshops are for parents and other caregivers, along with their children from birth to age 5. Each workshop demonstrates how parents can use five familiar and easy-to-use practices to develop language and other early literacy skills in young children.
Workshops are scheduled for Oct. 11, Nov. 8, and Dec. 6 at the Lumberton Library. Workshop sizes are limited and require registration. Registration begins Sept. 10.

Tuesday at 10 a.m., Kelly will be teaching a class on email basics at the Lumberton Library. When you are looking for a job, you need an email account so employers can contact you. This session will help you set up your email account and offer pointers on how to project a professional image in your email correspondence.

This September marks a couple of personal milestones for me. On the Sept. 22 my older son is getting married. I am very happy for him and his bride and I wish them a long life together. September brings the calendar around to one full year that I have been working at the library. I have been busy with many projects and have made many new friends. I look forward to the challenges of the next year.
