To the Editor,
Just in case you missed it, Democratic U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre, who represents Southeastern North Carolina, was one of 17 Democrats who crossed party lines on June 28 when he voted to hold U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder in contempt of Congress. It it was the first time in our nation’s history that a congressional contempt citation was issued against a current cabinet member.
McIntyre clearly has sacrificed the reputation of a good and honorable man in exchange for a shot at bolstering the congressman’s chances of being re-elected to a ninth term.
You may also be interested to know that in June 2011, McIntyre traveled to Europe on a fact-finding mission, which included stops in Rome; Tbilisi, Georgia; Vilnius, Lithuania; Moscow; and Lisbon. The costly 10-day trip was booked and paid for despite our national debt crisis. The trip just happened to coincide with McIntyre’s wedding anniversary. Guess who picked up the tab?
The next time you and your family plan a fact-finding trip to the beach, call Mike and ask if he will pay for it. After all, it seems only fair that he would, since you paid for his.
McIntyre has been in Congress since 1997, and he is now seeking your vote for another term. That would make 18 years in Congress. It was never meant to be a career. When you vote in November, you may wish to let Mike know that you believe in term limits.
