FAIRMONT — Kwinton Hinson poured in 27 points, leading the Fairmont boys basketball team to an 83-35 rout of South Brunswick on Tuesday night at Fairmont High School.

The newcomer Hinson, a sophomore forward who’s averaging 27.5 points in two games (55 points), helped the Golden Tornadoes (1-1) build a commanding 26-5 lead after one quarter of play. Shemar Barfield and Luke Hunt joined Hinson in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Fairmont hosts Hoke County Thursday in a rematch of last week’s showstopper in Raeford. The Bucks won the first meeting, 84-71.

Raiders get best of Mustangs

ROWLAND — Richmond County’s Raheem Bowden was too much for the South Robeson boys, scoring 21 points to lead the Raiders over the home Mustangs, 69-43. South Robeson (0-2) struggled to find consistent scoring — no Mustang reached double-digits — against the lengthy Raiders inside.

Zachary Thomas finished with a team-high eight points. On the girls side, South Robeson squandered a second-half lead to get edged by Richmond, 56-53. Aterria Quick shouldered the Lady Mustangs (1-1) with a game-high 27 points. Kivana Keane led the Lady Raiders with 11.

Swett swept by Trojans

FAYETTEVILLE — James Chavis’ 16 points wasn’t enough for the Purnell Swett boys in their 71-51 road loss to Pine Forest. Swett (1-2) fell into a 19-5 hole after the first quarter and never recovered. Mitchell Hill added 11 points for the Rams.

Vince Ray and Travis McEachern paced Pine Forest (3-0) with 14 and 13 points, respectively. The Swett girls, meanwhile, fell to the Trojans, 64-35. Jamie Bird finished with a team-high eight points for the Lady Rams (1-2). Ashley May netted a game-high 18 for Pine Forest.

Jumpjacck. Put down the red bull. U have one very good player. There is a reason why he ain't in Las Vegas. It'll happen here soon. Fairmont high is the perfect place for that....hint hint. James Atkinson will tell u bout that.

Wow wolfpackdave if u got something to say that we don't know about say it! Fairmont has a talented team with a number of players that can put up numbers. One of the key player Charlton Townsend is out with an injury and we all know what he means to the team. These guys have won since middle school, Orrum Middle and Fairmont Middle going back and forth winning championships. Hinson is a very good player and even better young man, his parents both graduates from FHS, so whats up with the statement about him being here. Richmond County and Dillon High are known for their football programs and Fairmont High is known for its basketball. Our kids work hard and start young to be a part of Fairmonts basketball

tradition. So what is Fairmont a perfect place for

My answer is a perfect place for ou kids to do what they love and that is to represent a school and team they Love. We have and never will b a one player team. Check the recent history..as stated before go back to these kids middle school days, next when they came together as freshmen and played j.v. ball, our j.v. teams havent lost more than two to three games a year since these group of seniors came along. Getting Hinson was a major plus for the program but dont say that we only have one good player because our records speak for themselves!!
