LUMBERTON — Meagan Skipper’s seven kills helped lead the Lumberton High School volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Hoke County in a Southeastern Conference match on Tuesday at LHS.

The Lady Pirates won in scores of 25-11, 31-29 and 35-10. Aliyah Ratley added five kills and Allison Kinlaw dished out 16 assists. Lumberton improves to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the SEC.

Swett tennis tops Hoke

RAEFORD — The Purnell Swett High School girls tennis team made quick work of Hoke, 9-0, in a Southeastern Conference match Tuesday at Hoke County High School. Larissa Lowry provided the Lady Rams’ most convincing singles win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 bout.

Kali Strickland, Kailey Godwin, Falon Strickland and Joyce Cummings added straight-set singles wins for Swett. Purnell Swett improves to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEC.

Swett volleyball takes out Richmond

PEMBROKE — The Purnell Swett volleyball team snapped Richmond’s six-game winning streak with a 11-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 Southeastern Conference victory Tuesday night at Swett High.

“We played great and like a team in the first game and fell apart the other three,” Richmond coach Shellie Wimpey said. “We need to regroup and be ready for Lumberton.”

Richmond cross country sweeps SEC meet

ROCKINGHAM — Brandon Gibson captured the boys meet and Morgan Tedder won the girls to lead Richmond Senior to a sweep of a three-team Southeastern Conference cross country meet Tuesday afternoon at Hinson Lake. Gibson completed the course in a time of 18:29 to beat teammate Maurice O'Neil by 21 seconds. Richmond finished first with 17 points, Lumberton was second at 59, followed by Hoke County with 60.

For the girls, Tedder finished with a time of 23:07, 10 seconds faster than Lumberton’s Nikki Hansen.

Mustangs, Tornadoes split Three Rivers meet

LUMBERTON — South Robeson took the boys side while Fairmont captured the girls end in a Three Rivers 1A/2A cross country meet Tuesday afternoon at Luther Britt Park. The Mustangs finished with 29 points for first, followed by runner-up Red Springs with 45 and Fairmont in third with 70.

The Fairmont girls cruised to victory with 18 points. South Robeson finished second with 41.
