MAXTON — American Indians from across the country will join the Tuscarora Nation as it celebrates its 29th annual Cultural Festival and Pow Wow on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Tuscarora Nation Territory Tribal Grounds at 288 Tuscarora Nation Road in Maxton.

This three-day event is a family gathering and the public is invited to attend. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children, and free for senior citizens. Tuscarora Nation event grounds will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Pow Wow Grand Entry for dancers will be at 6 p.m. Friday, and noon on Saturday.

The American Indian Festival and Pow Wow will have many different traditional singers, drummers, dancers, crafters, artists and much more. The 1700s replica village site and museum will also be open for tours.

All veterans will be honored during the Grand Entry ceremonies each day with special recognition to soldiers active and not active. American Indian crafters will have pottery, beadwork, jewelry, leather, crafts and more for sale. Historical and cultural demonstrations will be planned during the festival.

Special traditional dance exhibits will take place at various times of the day. Native food will be available, Indian fry bread, fish and chicken. A variety of food will be sold with plenty of ice-cold beverages.

John Oxendine, of the Tuscarora Nation, will be the master of ceremonies for this year’s festival. Host Drum will be Kau-Ta-Noh Jr.’s from North Carolina.

The festival and pow wow is open to the public. Parking is free. Special parking for the handicapped is available. Camping is also available for the entire weekend. Pow Wow attendants are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. Due to health and safety regulations, pets are not allowed on Tribal Grounds, unless for handicap access.
