PEMBROKE — A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for a major expansion to one of Pembroke’s apartment communities on Wednesday.
Pembroke Pointe Apartments recently completed Phase II in response to increased enrollment at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and higher demand for off-campus housing options.
Phase II has a total of 116 apartments in one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans. Pembroke Pointe Apartments, managed by Kenney Realty Services, will now be able to house as many as 426 students and faculty from UNCP.
Brandon Hammond, the community manager of Pembroke Pointe, said that they will continue the tradition of being in front of the demand for off-campus housing.
“We were one of the first private student-housing communities in Pembroke,” Hammond said. “Now we are the first community to offer one-bedroom apartments, and we are the first community to provide housing for university faculty and staff, as well.”
Steve Kenney, president and CEO of Kenney Companies, presented a donation of $2,500 to the UNC-Pembroke Support our Students Campaign at the ceremony.
“We are pleased to have a close working collaboration between Pembroke Pointe/Kenney properties and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke,” said UNCP’s Director of Student Development, Tom Corti. “This relationship has benefited UNCP students as well as the Pembroke community through their sponsorships and support,” Corti said.
The completion of Phase II is the culmination of a year of many improvements for Pembroke Pointe.
“We have made several upgrades to our clubhouse and have installed controlled-access gates for our parking area. We constantly look at ways to improve the resident experience at Pembroke Pointe,” Hammond said.
Attending the grand opening ceremony were Dr. Charles Jenkins, interim chancellor of UNCP; Pembroke Mayor Milton Hunt; McDuffie Cummings, Pembroke town manager; members of the Pembroke Town Council; other administrators from UNCP; and members of the Pembroke Area Chamber of Commerce also attended.
