Watch out kids! The library has a lot in store for you this summer. We have Zelnik the Magician coming, Jef the Mime, a play performance of “Alice in Wonderland” from the North Carolina Children’s Theatre, Fish the Magish and the master illusionist Jeff Jones coming to the library for performances this summer. Our children’s librarian, Cheryl “Shelly” Lane, will be doing creative story programs throughout the county.

Kids can sign up for the summer reading program at any of our library locations. Win cool prizes just for reading books! Be prepared to be entertained every day Monday through Friday during the summer. Please visit our Web site at www.robesoncountylibrary.org for the program schedule or pick up a schedule at your local library.

I have to tell you, I finally have seen the Outer Banks! Can you imagine my excitement? It is so much fun traveling along the coast in a convertible. I came back with a sunburned forehead and nose — but it was worth it!

I got to take long ferry rides to the various islands. I got to see the British cemetery, the Wright Brothers Museum, the Lost Colony and the Elizabethan Gardens. I never saw the wild horses, but the trip was wonderful just the same.

Well, baseball is now officially over for me. Billy’s team went to the finals and came in runner up in the tournament. They had a mighty fine year. Billy is thinking about playing fall baseball since he is too old to play football here in this county and his school does not offer football. I sure will miss watching him play football this year. But at least there is baseball.

I had a lovely picnic at Nancy Herthel’s house with a great group of ladies this past week. It was wonderful getting together talking and laughing. Laughter is good medicine too. Put that together with sunshine and you have it made!

I would like to report that the following authors have graciously sent in copies of their books: Laurell Hamilton, L.L. Foster, Adriana Trigiani, Patricia Kay, Tess Gerritsen and Barbara Delinsky. Orca Books also sent several books for the children’s department.

I would also like to thank the following people from the community for donating books and videos to the library: Maurice Mitchell, Terri Meares, Betty Ivey, Jan Fipps, Sherry Cupstid and Jerry Vendrick. Thank you all so very much!

Please remember that any donations, monetary or physical, are tax write-offs. We appreciate all the help we can get in these trying times due to the budget constraints and cuts this year. I would like to thank the community for all of your support.
