LUMBERTON — William V. Pate, a resident of Hope Mills and author of “The Survival of the Lost Colony: The Untold Story,” will speak at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Robeson County Historical and Genealogical Society’s monthly meeting in Lumberton.

Pate will speak about the suppositions given for the disappearance of members of Sir Walter Raleigh’s colony on North Carolina’s Roanoke Island in 1587.

His book about the subject provides verbatim transcriptions from historical documents followed by his comments on the insights they provide for solving the mystery.

The program will be held in the O. P. Owens Agriculture Center Auditorium at 455 Caton Road, which is just west of Interstate 95 between N.C. 72 and N.C. 711 in Lumberton, next to the Robeson County Health Department).

To accommodate the public, Pate will speak before the Robeson County Historical and Genealogical Society’s meeting.

Historian for years have believed that us Lumbee people have descended from the Croatan Tribe. There is no actual proof. Some say that the English sir names are the same.

Never-the-less it is a interesting subject. Just don't mention this to any Lumbee/Tuscarora that knows his or her history.
