Think of it as a final audition before the Big Show, only this tryout could be your last shot at a college football scholarship before National Signing Day on Feb. 6.

Saturday's Big Show Combine at Jack Britt High School provides uncommitted prep seniors a final opportunity at demonstrating their skills in front of college scouts looking to fill remaining spots in the 2013 signing class.

Heading up the event is first-year Britt coach and state 4AA runner-up Brian Rimpf, founder of the Big Show Combine. Rimpf starred at East Carolina before playing six seasons at guard in the NFL.

"This combine is for uncommitted high school seniors who want to play in college, but need more exposure," Rimpf said. "We're a month away from signing day and most schools don't have a full recruiting class. Their participation in the Senior Combine will give them the opportunity to perform in front of college coaches to showcase their abilities.

Players can pre-register online at bigshowcombine.com or sign up Saturday at Jack Britt. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a minimal fee.

For $40, a talented senior who may have slipped through the cracks due to size, academics or the lack of an impressive highlight film gets a near private workout and timely exposure surrounded by possible suitors. Rimpf confirmed Thursday that at least seven in-state schools will be in attendance and several others have expressed interest. All schools will be sent combine results.

"Colleges have expressed their excitement for the event because it gives them a chance to compare talent from all over the state up close," Rimpf said. "Every (NCAA) Division II, Division II, NAIA and I-AA school in North Carolina has been invited,''

College coaches are usually not allowed to attend high school combines but since all participants will have completed their eligibility, the rule is void. Players will perform various individual drills patterned after the NFL's Scouting Combine including the 40-yard dash, vertical jump and bench press and take part in position-specific sessions with instructors. A series of 1-on-1's and an award presentation will wrap up the morning event.

Garner running back Juwan Moye was named most valuable player at last season's combine hosted by Harnett Central High with an impressive 4.4 time in the 40 and a 34-inch vertical. Broughton's Quadry Hardy was a co-defensive MVP along with Dennis Gholston from Jack Britt. Moye now plays at Fayetteville State while Hardy is at Mars Hill.

"We're expecting a pretty good turnout," Rimpf said. "We've got players coming in from as far as Roanoke Rapids and Monroe."

Players will be timed and evaluated with results posted online for colleges to see. Participants are encouraged to bring an updated transcript. Helmets aren't needed.
