Caradine Brown Jr.

Maxton

Caradine Augustus “C.A.” Brown Jr., 70, of Maxton, passed away Dec. 20, 2012.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Caradine was born Sept. 15, 1942, in Robeson County, son of the late Caradine Augustus Brown and Mable Hubbard Brown and the beloved husband of the late Virginia Williams Brown. He was a farmer and an auctioneer that has held his license the longest for the state of North Carolina. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid coon hunter.

He is survived by a son, Caradine Augustus “C.A” Brown III of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three daughters, Jennifer Brown and Annette Brown, both of Little River, S.C., and Marie Frazier and husband Tommy of Lexington, S.C.; two sisters, Mary Brown of Bennettsville, S.C., and Lydia Larson of Loris, S.C.; four grandchildren, Joshua and Nicholas Brown, and Tommy and Nick Frazier; his special longtime companion, Marie Jenrette of the home; two special friends, Marlin Dial and Gary Revels, both of Maxton; and his K9 buddy, Cocoa.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Richard Boles Funeral Service in Laurinburg.

The family request that memorials be made to the Shrine Children’s Hospital in your area.

Don Garris

Lake View, S.C.

Don Garris, 50, of Lake View, died Dec. 20, 2012, in his home after an illness.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bear Swamp Baptist Church of Lake View. Burial will follow in Bear Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.

Garris was born in Dillon County. He was the son of the late Lester Earl and Lois Smith Garris.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served as a nuclear power electrician from 1987 to 1993. He was a member of Bear Swamp Baptist Church. He was employed with McLeod Medical Center of Dillon as director of plant operations. Don was known for his contagious laugh and light-hearted spirit. He was loved and will be missed by many.

Garris is survived by his wife, Karen Hayes Garris; two sons, Micheal Brooks Garri and Austin Douglas Lewis; his special friends, Tara, Kelsie, Kayden and Hunter Keith Lewis; two brothers, Lester Ray Garris (Vickie) and Ronnie Garris; and a sister, Lois Ann Miller (Wayne).

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cooke Funeral Home in Lake View.

Joyce Branch Matt, 77, died Dec. 20, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

A memorial will be 3 p.m. today at East Lumberton Church of God, the Rev. Bruce Brumfield officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Matt is survived by three sons, John Mitchell Matt and wife, Paula, of Fayetteville, Donald Ray Matt and wife, Carol, of Madison Heights, Mich., and James Matt of Hazel Park, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today one hour before the service at East Lumberton Church of God.

Jakie Cummings, 82, of Lumberton, died Dec. 19, 2012, at his residence.

He is survived by two daughters, Debra Kay Radford and Ilene Melvin; six sons, Larry Wayne Cummings, Leroy Cummings, Ronald Cummings, Donald Cummings, Jackie Cummings and Ricky Cummings; two brothers, Ernest Cummings and Bill Cummings; two sisters, Millie Hammonds and Elizabeth Willis; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren

The visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Biggs Funeral Home.

Steve Smith, 61, of Fayetteville, died Dec. 21, 2012, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

A memorial will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Saint Pauls Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Michael Gist officiating.

He is survived by his wife, Doris E. Smith; a son, William Stephen Smith Jr.; three daughters, Karen Meaut, Michelle Serrano and Sherry Hobbs; two brothers, Larry Smith and Roy Lee Smith; a sister, Rose Medlin; and nine grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. before the service.

Gabby Griffith, 76, of Whiteville died Dec. 20, 2012, in Columbus Regional Healthcare.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Whiteville Assembly Of God, the Revs. Tim Rausch, Dewayne Dickerson and Terry Green officiating. Burial will follow in Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Adcox Griffith; two sons, Baron Griffith of Loris, S.C., and Mikie Brown of Evergreen; two daughters, Jean Carol Philips and Marcee Smith, both of Lumberton; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville.

Annette Locklear

Maxton

Annette Locklear, 53, of 130 Melinda Road, died Dec. 20, 2012, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Prospect United Methodist Church, the Revs. Kenneth Locklear and Kip Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Keith Locklear; a daughter, Talina Ransom of Maxton; three sons, Ryan Locklear of Pembroke, Nicholas Locklear of the home and Victor Locklear of Maxton; a sister, Brenda Locklear of Vander; three brothers, David Walker of Fayetteville, Anthony Walker of Vander and Timothy Walker of South Carolina; her stepfather, Russell Walker; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thompson’s Funeral Home Chapel.
