LUMBERTON —A 58-year-old woman has been cited by Lumberton police after her vehicle was struck by a slow-moving train on Thursday.
Lizzie Beth Robinson, a Lumberton resident, was traveling with two grandchildren when the accident happened, police Capt. Jerome Morton told the Fayetteville Observer. Robinson was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. Her condition was not available.
According to Morton, Robinson was driving a 2011 Chevrolet when it failed to stop at 10th and Willow streets, where the train tracks are marked with a sign and not gates. Morton said the CSX train was traveling at about 7 mph when it clipped the front of Robinson’s car and pushed it about 15 feet.
He said Robinson was apparently distracted from talking two grandchildren, ages 9 and 3. There was no information on whether the children were injured.
The train continued after a brief delay. There was no information on damage to Robinson’s car.
