LUMBERTON — Two people were injured in separate shootings during the Memorial Day weekend, according to Lumberton police Capt. Johnny Barnes.
Matthew Ross, 29, of Marion Road, who was shot in the buttocks, and Jeremy Jacobs, 32, of Parmele Avenue, who was shot in the arm, were both treated at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. According to a hospital spokesperson, Ross was later released, and Jacobs was treated and transferred.
Ross was shot in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Road and Washington Street on Monday afternoon, Barnes said.
According to Barnes, Ross was questioned at the hospital and refused to give the investigating officer any information about the shooting. Ross has previously been charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny, attempted larceny, possession of stolen goods, possession of a controlled substance, driving while license revoked and harassing phone calls.
Jacobs was shot once in the arm early Saturday outside of his home, Barnes said. Jacobs told investigators that he was talking to a man, and that the man went to his car, pulled a shotgun out of the trunk and began shooting at him, Barnes said.
Barnes said that some pellets from the gun entered the residence, but no one inside was injured. The caliber and size of the pellets were unknown.
