Student charged with having gun at school

ST. PAULS — A St. Pauls High School student was charged this week with having a firearm on school property after another student reported a gun in his vehicle, according to St. Pauls police.

According to Chief R.T. Hagens, a student saw a gun in the car driven by 17-year-old Austin Malone about 2 p.m. on Monday.

“He told the principal and the principal went out to the car,” Hagens said.

In the car, police found a loaded .40-caliber handgun, Hagens said. Malone has not given a reason for having the gun in his car, he said.

DeRay Cole, assistant superintendent of Human Resources for the Public Schools of Robeson County, said the school district is investigating the incident.

I'm glad the student that reported the gun was more concerned about doing the right thing than being thought of as a snitch by worthless lowlifes.

it's gettin to the point we gonna need to have citizen guards and checkpoints at the bus stops, then at the school parking lots, then inside the hallways, then inside the classrooms, bathrooms and closets! We need to stop this culture of violence before its too late!!!

Happy 236th
Thousands of people were dazzled by the fireworks display at the annual Lumberton Family Fourth celebration at the Lumberton High School football stadium on Tuesday. Many watched the display from parking lots and sidewalks around town and from their own front yards. Before the show, attendees were treated to a performance by the Carolina Breakers, and a stunt by the Army Rangers, who parachuted onto the football field.
