LUMBERTON — A Lumberton man accused of shooting and killing another man at a public housing development on Saturday surrendered to lawmen on Friday.
Josh Dwayne Morrison, 25, of 306 E. Fourth St., turned himself in at the Lumberton Police Department at about 5:45 p.m. on Friday and was placed in the Robeson County jail without bond, according to Capt. Johnny Barnes. A warrant charging Morrison with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 22-year-old Cenatae Smith, of 309 Myrtle Court, was issued on Tuesday.
Barnes said Morrison told police the two had gotten into a fight a few minutes before the shooting. It is unclear what the fight was about.
Smith was shot once in the head at 11:27 p.m. on Saturday while with a friend in the roadway of Turner Terrace. He was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Duke University Medical Center, where he died.
Morrison has previously faced charges of possession to sell and distribute marijuana, assault on a female, and trespassing.
