LUMBERTON — A probation officer who lost her job after admitting to sharing her home with a convicted felon has been ordered to register as a sex offender, according to court documents.
Katrina Milstein, 47, of 5719 Old Stage Road in Fairmont, pled guilty on May 21 to the felony charge of sexual activity by a custodian, a charge for which she will serve two years of supervised probation and be labeled a sex offender for 30 years.
“It was a consensual act, but it was still prohibited by law because of him being on probation under her employer,” said Vanessa Burton, prosecutor for the state.
Milstein was also ordered to pay a total of $864.50 in fines and court fees.
A felony charge of aiding and abetting possession of a firearm by a felon, and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and filing a false report, to which Milstein also pled guilty, were consolidated under the sexual activity by a custodian charge.
Milstein admitted to having a relationship with Deko Faison, then 27, of Lumberton, in 2010, after her Hyundai Elantra was stopped for a traffic violation and identification and drugs belonging to Faison were found inside, according to court documents.
Faison is currently serving a 10-and-a-half-year sentence as a habitual felon. He has been charged with 19 felonies since 2000, according to the Department of Corrections.
Gale Wilcox was Faison’s probation officer and did not know of the relationship between him and Milstein, Keith Acree, a spokesman with the state Department of Correction, told The Robesonian in 2010.
He said that there is a strict policy for probation officers to not engage in any sort of relationship with someone who is on probation.

As for those that don't, please get your act together before you embarass yourself and your family. If you're going to get it right, let all these others be an example to you. Don't get caught out there and let somebody drag your name through the mud. Straighten up before it's too late, while you still have time.
Good riddance to you Ms.Milstein no love lost here.
Does it means that if you fight evil, you should take care that you do not become evil yourself?
Perhaps it means that if you are sufficiently attracted to 'something' in the first place to become aware of it, that 'something' has a magnetic or mesmerizing hold on you, regardless of whether it is positive or negative, good or evil. You could be in possession of minute particles of that element inside of you, which then become instantly magnetized by, or attracted to the stronger dominant force.
Probation Officers, Law Enforcement Officers, DAs,Magistrates, Judges and many many more civil service employees face MONSTERS everyday. Sometimes this is what happens.... When the Abyss looks back it is time to run not take him home with you. Lord Have Mercy....
