LUMBERTON — A Lumberton teenager was arrested and charged on Wednesday after attempting to rob a man at a local mobile home park, according to Capt. Terry Parker with the Lumberton Police Department. The man was shot during the attempted robbery but his injuries are not life threatening.
Dymaree Savon Thompson, 19, of Littlefield Mobile Home Park, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, attempted first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery, and conspiracy.
Parker said that Thompson was being held at the Robeson County jail under a $125,000 bond.
According to Parker, Thompson was among a group of three or four people who tried to rob 22-year-old Martinez Sanchez, of Rosewood Mobile Home Park, at about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Parker said that Sanchez was approached by the group, and was shot once in the back as he tried to flee.
Parker said police do not believe Thompson is the shooter.
Sanchez was taken to the Southeastern Regional Medical Center and was later transferred to another hospital, according to Parker.
Parker said that police are still investigating and no other warrants have been issued. Anyone with information should call police Detective Jerry Kinlaw at 910-671-3845.
