LUMBERTON — A 62-year-old Lumberton man is being held on a $50,000 bond after shooting his 32-year-old live-in girlfriend in the neck, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Robert Eugene McIntyre, of Lot 27 at 19 Helena Drive, was arrested on Thursday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in the Wednesday night shooting of Lawanna Lowery, according to sheriff’s Maj. Howard Branch.

Lowery was treated and released from Southeastern Regional Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Lowery and an acquaintance were at a friend’s home on Lowe Road when the two decided to leave to go buy some beer, Branch said. McIntyre arrived at the house and told Lowery that she didn’t have any business being there, Branch said. McIntyre then shot Lowery in the neck and drove away, according to Branch.

McIntyre was convicted of second-degree murder in Onslow County in 1982 after shooting and killing a man he had argued with inside of a store, according to court documents. McIntyre has also previously faced charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon and assault inflicting serious injury.

When you're 62, shacked up with one 32, and you don't have the money to fill your Viagra prescription until the first of the month welfare check comes......well, it was probably self-defense.

Boy was that the truth... Laughed at that one for ten minutes... This is what's wrong with Robeson County, the girls don't care who they shack with. Take away the welfare check, foodstamps, medicaid, W.I.C. free daycare, etc, and then these girls will make choices of men based on merit, work ethic, and security rather than the size of his umm... heart?, yeah, that's it, his heart...

Thousands of people were dazzled by the fireworks display at the annual Lumberton Family Fourth celebration at the Lumberton High School football stadium on Tuesday. Many watched the display from parking lots and sidewalks around town and from their own front yards. Before the show, attendees were treated to a performance by the Carolina Breakers, and a stunt by the Army Rangers, who parachuted onto the football field.

The danger that is straight ahead
A hundred years ago, anyone who might have predicted in 1913 the monumental, man-made catastrophes that would occur in the rest of the 20th century would have been considered warped, if not completely mentally deranged. Who would have believed that the continent of Europe, which had not had a ...
