PEMBROKE — An explosion that was heard on Saturday morning led to arson charges against a 28-year-old Pembroke man, according to Lt. Brian Duckworth, a fire investigator with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Duckworth said Travis Dewayne Locklear, of the 4100 block of Union Chapel Road, Pembroke, was slightly injured by a blast when he set a fire that destroyed a trailer. Locklear is charged with burning certain buildings, burning personal property, breaking and entering and stealing a truck.
Duckworth said Locklear used gasoline to set fire to the trailer at 3401 Evergreen Church Road because the person living there, Ethel Cheree Oxendine, allegedly owed him $140. Oxendine was not at home at the time of the fire, which also destroyed her belongings.
Locklear, whom Duckworth said was intoxicated on “pills,” was blown off the steps of the trailer by a small explosion. The home is owned by Jeanette Cummings.
Locklear is being held at the Robeson County jail under a $41,000 bond and was scheduled to make his first court appearance today. Duckworth said that Locklear was already out on bail on charges of forgery and larceny
The Robeson County Fire Marshal’s Office assisted the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
