LUMBERTON — The Sheriff’s Office is calling the deaths of a husband and wife who were found dead Wednesday in their Old Whiteville Home a murder-suicide.

Paul Adams, 62, and his wife Cathy, 56, died of gunshot wounds.

“According to the evidence that has been collected from the scene, it appears to be a murder-suicide,” Sealey said this morning. “There is no evidence to suggest that anybody else was involved.”

Sealey said he was not ready to release additional information.

Sealey said Wednesday that deputies were dispatched at 10:04 a.m. to the home at 9833 Old Whiteville Road after a 911 call was received.

The caller, a woman Sealey did not identify, reported that her brother had found their parents dead. Sealey said the woman’s brother lives near the parents’ home.

Sealey said the first deputy on the scene found “the two people who live in that home … deceased.”

“They both had been shot,” he said.

The bodies were sent to Chapel Hill for autopsy.

Paul Adams owned a construction business in Lumberton bearing his name. Several websites list the business’ address as the couple’s home address on Old Whiteville Road.

The business was awarded a $45,500 bid by the City Council in October to complete an extension on a storage building at the water plant.

Terry, Pauls brother, is my best friend. I had the pleasure of meeting Paul and Cathy. They were very nice people. They both welcomed me with open arms & treated me as though they had always known me. God rest their beautiful souls. Please pray for the entire family, & may God Bless and comfort them all.

I can't believe this, but life is full of things now that shock me. I pray God will bless the family left behind. Satan is busy in our county but I know that God is still in control and he will win the battle in the end. Let's all keep praying and believing and wait on him.

People need to back up. I knew Paul Sr, Kathy, the little adopted girl. Stayed with Paul SR evey weekend, and P Jr lived with me for 3 years. Ppl should get the facts before judging. These were and are great folks. God bless Jessica, the girl, Tim Rice, Pat, Jason F, may God give u all closure and comfort in this horrific day or two. Ppl give the Adams a break. Jesus bless them Amen

I don't see how any "Lord" anybody would be praying to would let this happen. Maybe YOU do. That's your right. I don't.

@ Percy.... You may not believe in God now, but there will be a day when you stand before him that you will, I only pray that you believe and accpet him before then. The word of God says in Matthew 5:45(GNT)45. so that you may become the children of your Father in heaven. For he makes his sun to shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain to those who do good and to those who do evil. Good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people... it's part of life. 1 Peter 1:6-7In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. God is still God, through the good times and the bad times. When sin entered the world people have a choice on rather or not they choose to serve God or not. Peoples choice to do wrong or evil does not mean God doesnt care because he does. It is just the cost for sin. The Lord I serve is GREAT even in my dark days, even when my father was killed I knew without a doubt he was the reson I made it through! Never think because you are going through heartache and pain that God is not with you, put your trust in him and be real about your realtionship with him and he will take care of you. I am sincerely praying for this family to find peace and comfort within eachother and know that God is still God and he loves them.

@Percykution-first of all God gives us a mind to do as we please. And with this mind, we can choose to do good or evil (Adam/Eve). We who choose to follow Christ believe He is the way the truth and the light. No man can come to the Father, but through Him. Now, just as these people made a choice. You have a choice to make. Accept Christ as your Lord and Savior or spend eternal life in HELL. There it is. The choice is yours. I truly pray for you and your family.

Happy 236th
Thousands of people were dazzled by the fireworks display at the annual Lumberton Family Fourth celebration at the Lumberton High School football stadium on Tuesday. Many watched the display from parking lots and sidewalks around town and from their own front yards. Before the show, attendees were treated to a performance by the Carolina Breakers, and a stunt by the Army Rangers, who parachuted onto the football field.
