SHANNON — Authorities are looking for two people they say shot a man multiple times while robbing him outside a Shannon convenience store.

Arrest warrants have been issued for 20-year-old Catherine Deleane Betty, of Yadkin Trail Road in Raeford, and 20-year-old Leon Rico Locklear, of Odessey Lane in Shannon. The two are accused of shooting Charles Jones outside a convenience store on N.C. 71 in Shannon on Friday.

According to sheriff’s Capt. Anthony Thompson, Jones had gone into the store to cash a check. As he left the store he was approached by Locklear, “and they got into some type of argument,” Thompson said.

Thompson said it’s not clear what the argument was about, but Jones and Locklear apparently knew each other.

At some point, Locklear took Jones’ wallet, then pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot Jones four times in the chest, abdominal and head areas, Thompson said.

According to the warrant, the two stole about $900 from Jones. Locklear fled in a green car, which investigators believe was being driven by Betty, Thompson said.

A spokesperson at Southeastern Regional Medical Center said Jones was in good condition.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 910-671-3100.

It is not the point that you hit a nerve... It is the point that you made a negative comment without just cause. I read many of your post and you experienced a similar situation which is obvious from the posts you have written in the past. What if the individuals would commented in such a manner about your situation. Would you not be quick to defend? Would you not be hurt? This was an innocent man who was preyed on by two individual that felt they could do as they please. This is a man who moved away from his family to find work so he could provide. When it becomes illegal to walk in and out of a store, please inform me. Everyone in Robeson County does not sell or do drugs. And no you did not strike a nerve with me... Just my thoughts.

Robesonian still allows the posting of hurtful comments about innocent people. Perhaps they should take note of Sanford Fla. Ignorance got out of hand there. Ask the Martin family.

@SouthernRebel-Hope you don't ever get robbed at a bank after you cash your check. Someone just might say you were robbed because you were on drugs. Now, would that be true?

Happy 236th
Thousands of people were dazzled by the fireworks display at the annual Lumberton Family Fourth celebration at the Lumberton High School football stadium on Tuesday. Many watched the display from parking lots and sidewalks around town and from their own front yards. Before the show, attendees were treated to a performance by the Carolina Breakers, and a stunt by the Army Rangers, who parachuted onto the football field.
