LUMBERTON — A 54-year-old Lumberton man was arrested and charged on Monday with stabbing his younger brother to death, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

In an unrelated case, authorities are seeking information in a Sunday morning murder of a 47-year-old Red Springs man.

Ira Frederick Locklear, of 3267 Saddletree Road, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his brother, 53-year-old Vickie Locklear, according to sheriff’s Capt. Anthony Thompson. The two brothers were neighbors.

Ira Locklear is being held in the Robeson County jail without bond.

Vickie Locklear was found dead in the bedroom of his 3223 Saddletree Road home at about 7:22 a.m. on Monday, Thompson said. Thompson said investigators don’t know what led to the murder.

Ira Locklear has previously faced charges of misdemeanor stalking, breaking and entering, assault on a state officer, communicating threats and larceny of a motor vehicle, according to jail records.

Thompson said Monday that “nothing has materialized” in the murder of Dennis Tipton, of 113 Clifford Road in Red Springs.

Tipton was found in the front yard of his home by his brother, Dean, who lives next door, Thompson said. Deputies were called to Tipton’s home at about 8 a.m. but Thompson said he didn’t know how long Tipton had been dead.

Thompson said Tipton did not die of natural causes, and that the cause of death would be determined by an autopsy.

Anyone with information can call the Sheriff’s Office at 910-671-3100. Callers can remain anonymous.
