Records fall again across the state

RALEIGH — From the mountains to the sea, North Carolina’s heat wave continues to set records.

The National Weather Service says record highs for the day were set in Asheville at 98 degrees and in Wilmington at 104.

The Raleigh-Durham airport again matched its hottest temperature ever at 105 degrees, and Charlotte also reached its highest temperature ever at 104 degrees.

Fayetteville also set a daily record at 102 degrees.

All of North Carolina east of the foothills will be under an excessive heat warning again Sunday, but forecasters say highs should be a few degrees cooler, with a small chance of a thunderstorm.

Even Grandfather Mountain reported its hottest temperature ever Saturday at 84 degrees at the Mile High Swinging Bridge, breaking the old record of 83 degrees from August 1983.
