LUMBERTON — A Lumberton man has been arrested and charged with attempting to set fire to an Internet gaming cafe while eight people were inside, according to Robeson County sheriff’s Lt. Brian Duckworth.

Randy Lee Locklear, 20, of 8390 N.C. 72 East, is charged with attempted first-degree arson after setting fire on Wednesday night to the outside of Match Point Internet Cafe, at 8424 N.C. 72 East, while two employees and six customers were inside, Duckworth said. He is being held at the Robeson County jail under a $10,000 secured bond.

Locklear was at the business but had been asked to leave multiple times because he was not playing any games, Duckworth said. After he left, a customer entered the business and said the outside of the building was on fire, and an employee put it out with a bottle of water, according to Duckworth.

Duckworth said a review of surveillance tapes showed Locklear setting fire to an area of the building’s exterior with exposed wood with a cigarette lighter.

I'll bet he was a star student in school and a real role model for his classmates.

Happy 236th
Thousands of people were dazzled by the fireworks display at the annual Lumberton Family Fourth celebration at the Lumberton High School football stadium on Tuesday. Many watched the display from parking lots and sidewalks around town and from their own front yards. Before the show, attendees were treated to a performance by the Carolina Breakers, and a stunt by the Army Rangers, who parachuted onto the football field.
