Firefighters' fare
LUMBERTON — Supporting the Lumberton Fire Department is as easy as firing up your oven and making some good eats. But first, you need a cookbook. The Lumberton Volunteer Firefighters Association, a nonprofit that raises money for the four Lumberton stations, is selling cookbooks filled with recipes from local firefighters and their families and friends. “I’m a sucker for a cookbook,” said Vicki Wayne, the president of the association, ...

They use their computers to keep financial records; provide year-end data analysis of their farm operation; and search the Internet for the latest information on commodity prices, alternative enterprises, weather conditions, and complete applicat...

The Pastime and Riverside theaters: ‘B’ Movies and Serials
Although the United States was mired in the Great Depression during the 1930s, motion picture theaters were being built and opened for business. Two such openings took place in Lumberton, with the Pastime beginning operations in 1934 and the Riverside in 1939. The Pastime was located in the McLeod building at 413-433 Elm St., beginning at the corner of West Fifth Street and Elm Street across from the county courthouse, now home to the Bowen...
