This garden on the banks of Lumber River beside what once was the American Legion Building in the 1920s was created under the leadership of Kate Britt Biggs. Many of the plants were rooted by Kate Biggs in her home garden on Sixth Street. Members of the American Legion and its auxiliary landscaped the garden and elsewhere in downtown Lumberton in the 1920s.

PROCTORVILLE — The W.R. Surles Memorial Library recently received a copy of “Secreatariat’s Meadow” that was signed by the authors and publishers of the book.
