This nation has lost God’s protection through our sins
To the Editor, Ever since the Supreme Court ordered prayer and God out of public schools, Satan with his power of death moved in schools and the killing of school children has become a regular horrible event. Twenty children in a school in Newtown, Conn., were expected home from school but they went to Heaven from school. God trumped Satan. President Obama said he was upset over the recent killing of school children, at the same time Obam...

Tribal government turns back on its elders, youths
To the Editor, The Lumbee have perfected the holiday exchange of the white elephant — the tradition about passing the buck. The first elephant was discovered eight months ago when our tribal government was found to be a fraud. The legislative branch has for more than a decade been unconstitutional. While the executive branch has supported corrective action to return our tribal government to constitutional compliance, for eight months the ...

We must speak up against destruction of young minds
To the Editor, On Friday, we experienced another terrible school shooting by a young man in his early 20s. This letter is not about gun control or freedom of speech rights, this letter is about the majority of American people — people who believe in God, discipline, training our children to respect others, kindness and love. We have been silent too long and have allowed the few to take prayer and discipline out of our schools, to not allo...

Not even Lumbees want to read about their government
To the Editor, In the last election, fewer than 10 percent of the enrolled eligible voters of the Lumbee tribe cast a ballot. Yet the members of the tribe who don’t vote and don’t have anything to do with the Lumbee Tribal Government are constantly being judged by stories on the front of newspapers that have nothing to do with them. The voters let their thoughts and beliefs be known by remaining silent. If the voters would have believed i...

Rennert community helps feed needy on the holiday
The the Editor, The Greater Community Missionary Outreach of the town of Rennert was successful providing our 4th annual Thanksgiving dinner to the needy families in the Rennert community on Nov. 17 at noon. Because of concerned citizens of Robeson County and their generous donations, everyone who came to the Rennert Community building was fed. A special thanks to everyone who prayed; donated money; assisted preparing food; cooking; shopp...

God has been clear on issue of homosexuality
To the Editor, I would like to respond to a letter from, Katie Lewis, who unfortunately shares my name, that was published on Nov. 20 in The Robesonian. Ms. Lewis erroneously quoted the Bible. In addition, she blatantly ignored the actual political platform of Romney, equating him with the second Bush administration. Ms. Lewis is correct when she refers to the Biblical command that Christians are not to judge others. There are many places...

Why the difference in bonds for youths charged with crimes?
To the Editor, My concern lies with the way bonds are set. In the past few months, I have seen a rash of crimes, from arson, to assault, to animal cruelty and breaking and entering. I have also noticed a higher bond rate for Native Americans than non-native people. The kids who broke into Hilly Branch where wrong. Their bonds were set extremely high; the four kids who set fire to hay bales and burned down the historic house in Fairmont an...

Soon we will know what Obama is really up to
To the Editor, I would like to let Katie Lewis and others know that the people who did not vote for Obama do have enough common sense to know what the Bible has to say about sinful leaders. In Biblical times, when Israel had a wicked leader, they suffered. When they had a God-fearing leader, they prospered. She accused people of judging. She used the words in her letter, so-called Christians. Was she not judging? Some of the Americans h...

Businesses need to be accessible to handicapped
To the Editor, I have had so many people come up to me and say, “Cookie, I would love to go to that store shopping but can’t because I have a mobility issue” — walker, cane or wheelchair. If the businesses in our area want to give a hand up in our county, they should make all the businesses mentally and physically accessible. Several people state that while they can enter the store, they cannot go any farther because of the closeness of t...

God is plain in regard to abortion, homosexuality
To the Editor, I would like to respond to the letter to the editor from Katie Lewis. I disagree with Katie on the issue of Obama; this is not an issue of Obama or George Bush. People want to blame one or the other. The problem is with both of them and both of the parties; one can’t take the blame. Now as far as Obama, he does support gay marriage and abortion. He said it with his own mouth that he supports a woman’s right to choose, and...

Parents must take steps to protect their children
To the Editor, Parents, did you know that every 40 seconds a child goes missing or is abducted in the United States? According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, nearly 800,000 children under the age of 18 go missing each year in the United States, with the average being 2,185 reported per day. Parents, it is important to take precautionary steps in an effort to keep your children safe. The outstanding number of ch...

Cummings should lead in effort for county fiscal reform
To the Editor, In an earlier letter to the editor prior to the release of County Manager Ricky Harris’ study on the commissioners’ pay and benefits, I noted that no study was required. After reviewing the study, I continue to stand by my comments and insight on its necessity. Mr. Harris’ provided fiscal information to the commissioners they were already privy to from The Robesonian. I noted then that the commissioners should take the inform...

Pecan trees perfect for the yard and will be bountiful
To the Editor, Thanks to The Robesonian for a timely article on pecans in the Nov. 19 newspaper. I’m a big fan of pecans and pick up several hundred pounds a year. After selling some and cracking some at the Lumber River Trading Company, they make great Christmas presents, not to mention holiday treats. I would take exception, however, to a comment made in the article by the expert from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Con...

Time has come for council to work with tribal chairman
To the Editor, If you beat around the bush, all you do is kill the grass. Members of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina have re-elected Paul Brooks as tribal chairman with 52 percent of the vote cast. The 21 members of the Tribal Council are not spending a lot of time congratulating Brooks. They have returned to their very public refusal to work with our chairman. It’s time for the bullying and the arguing to end if the members of our...

If you didn’t vote in Lumbee election, don’t complain later
To the Editor, Brothers, sisters, friends and the Lumbee people, on Nov. 13, 4,899 members of the Lumbee Tribe decided the future for over 50,000 tribal members. These numbers tell me and the Lumbee government that the majority of our people really don’t care how our government is run or who is running it. For all those who chose not to vote, you now have no reason to complain about how our government is run or any of the services that ou...

Enough Americans knew we didn’t need Bush again
To the Editor, I would like to let people know that religion has no place in politics and that the Lord says not to be a part of world and follow his world, not the word of man. The problem with this country does not have anything to do with these so-called Christians who put politics and religion in the same sentence. I don’t know what everyone else has read or been fed, but I never heard Obama say he was Muslim. However, if he were it i...
