Google taps Lumberton group for Glass grant

LUMBERTON — A Lumberton nonprofit has been selected to receive a $25,000 grant from Google and will work alongside the tech giant to develop new uses for its innovative Glass headset.On Wednesday, Google announced that 3,000 Miles for a Cure was among five organizations picked to receive funding through its Giving through Glass initiative, described by the company as a way to help nonprofits “amplify their impact.”Cyclist Maria Parker founded 3,000 Miles for a Cure in 2013 to raise money for brain cancer research after her sister, who passed away last month, was diagnosed with the disease.
