This feature offers a weekly look at what’s going on in golf around Robeson County.

Carolina Plantation Golf Club

The club will host the Clyde Hatcher Memorial Golf tournament on Saturday to benefit Lumberton High School athletics. The event is a four-man captain’s choice with a 9 a.m. start. The cost is $60 per player.

The club also hosts a two-man shootout at 9 a.m. on Wednesdays for $20, which includes lunch. All ages are welcome.

The twilight scramble is played at 5:45 p.m. on Thursdays, with teams drawn from a hat each week.

Fairmont Golf Club

Monday’s Old Hackers winners were Bill Link, Dennis Moore, Wil Jones and Frank McCormick.

Ricky Rogers and Tim Moore took home first place in the championship flight of Tuesday’s Senior Shootout at the club.

Jimmy Stone and Ronald Moore finished in second place in the championship flight.

The winners in the first flight were Jerry Stubbs and Jerry McIntyre, with Mel Britt and Dennis Harrell finishing in second.

Jimmy and Tommy Dyson won the second flight, with Marty Davenport and Jimmy Waddell finishing as the runner-ups.

The special event winners were Ed Bailey, Danny Glascock, Wayne Beasley and Wayne Callahan.

Pinecrest Country Club

The team of Mark Locklear, Greg Dial and Ashton Woods won the Royce McNeill Scholarship golf tournament on June 26 at Pinecrest Country Club with a score of 53.

The money collected at the tournament funded an endowed scholarship in honor of Roger McNeill for the golf team at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and in support of the Purnell Swett High School golf team.

The tournament featured 23 teams with 92 total players participating. The second-place winners, with a score of 56, were Larry McNeill, Donnie Beck, Lonail Locklear and Matt McNeill.

James Earl Lowry, Dana Watkins and Laura Bird came in third after shooting a 57 and winning a scorecard playoff.

Closest-to-the hole winners were: Timmy Dial on hole No. 2; Greg Dial on No. 7; Eric Locklear on No. 10; and Steve Kinlaw on No. 12.

Kendall Hamilton won the most accurate drive on No. 17 and the longest drives belonged to Jamie Locklear on No. 8 and Laura Bird on No. 18.

The LRDA Lumbee Homecoming Golf tournament on June 27 was shortened by rain and limited to a nine-hole finish.

The tournament featured 22 teams with 66 players participating.

There was a tie for first place in Flight A at 6-under-par. LeMark Harris, Marty Hunt and Gerald Strickland were one team. Larry McNeill, Tray Martin and Donnie Beck were the the other winners.

The third place team with a score of 5-under-par were David Lowery Jr., Ashton Woods, Mickey Strickland.

In Flight B, Preston Locklear, Grayson Locklear and Freddie Jacobs took home first place with a score of 8-under-par.

In second place, with a score of 6-under-par, were Larry Lynn Locklear, Carlton Dial and Ricky Harris. Greg Canady, Tommy Maynor and Justin Branch finished in third place at 5-under-par.

Flight C saw three teams finished in a tie for first place at 2-under-par. Caleb McMillan, Eric Locklear, and Clyde Cooper were one team. Calvin and Jimmy Hammonds, along with Brion Oxendine were the second team. Sherman Godwin, Jimmy Highes and Tyee Seals rounded out the first-place winners.

Closest to the hole winners were: Dwayne Emanuel on No. 2; Calvin Hammonds on No. 7; David Lowry Jr. on No. 10; Greg Canady on No. 12.

Junior Nance of Bladenboro had the round of the week with a score of 65 on June 27. He was playing with Otis Evans and Linwood Hedgepeth.
