PEMBROKE — The University of North Carolina at Pembroke women’s basketball head coach John Haskins has announced the additions of Aliyah Farmer, Treycie Ford and Ieshia Love to the 2017-18 recruiting class, which brings the final number of newcomers to seven for the upcoming season.

Farmer joins the Braves after playing her freshman season at in-state Mars Hill, while Love transfers to UNCP following one year at both Cape Fear and Catawba Valley. Ford will be one of three incoming freshman on this year’s team after impressing as a dual-sport star at Eastern Wayne High School in Goldsboro.

“We are excited that Aliyah, Treycie and Ieshia have decided to continue their athletic and academic careers at UNC Pembroke,” Haskins said.

Farmer, a 5-8 forward, started 27 of 28 games last season at Mars Hill while averaging 11.2 points per game, which was second best on the squad. She hauled in a team-best 7.9 rebounds per outing and shot 42.3 percent from the field en route to a spot on the South Atlantic Conference’s all-freshman team. A graduate of North Rowan High School, Farmer averaged 16.8 points and 12 rebounds per game in her senior season and 12 points and 10 boards as a junior. She was twice named team MVP and a three-time all-county selection.

Aliyah is the daughter of Janice Farmer and plans to major in criminal justice at UNCP.

“Aliyah is a very athletic forward who really competes on the court,” Haskins added. “She runs the floor well, can attack the basket off the dribble, can score in the post and is an excellent rebounder.”

Ford, a 5-6 guard, littered the stat sheet as a senior at Eastern Wayne High School. She averaged 10.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 3.4 steals and 0.9 blocks per game and was named to the all-conference team. Her assist and steal numbers led the team that compiled a 17-9 record. As a junior, Ford poured in 5.5 points per game and tacked on 4.0 boards, 3.0 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.2 blocks en route to another all-conference selection. A four-time letterwinner in both basketball and track, Ford finished fifth in the state in the outdoor triple jump in her junior and senior year and was named MVP both seasons.

Treycie is the daughter of Jimmy Ford and Josephine Jefferson and has one older brother, Trey. She was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in high school and plans to major in physical therapy at UNCP.

“Treycie is an athletic wing who can play multiple positions for us,” Haskins remarked. “She can score in the mid-range and also by attacking the rim. She sees the floor well and created opportunities for her teammates.”

Love, a 5-4 guard, averaged 10.6 points while appearing in 19 games as a sophomore at Catawba Valley last season. She knocked down 35.4 percent of her 3-point attempts and hauled in 3.1 rebounds per game. As a freshman at Cape Fear, Love saw action in 29 games and averaged 4.2 points per outing. A two-sport athlete (basketball and track) at Northwestern High School, Love poured in 11.3 points per game as a senior and was twice named to the all-region team.

Ieshia is the daughter of Rachel and Johnny Love and has two older brothers, Ernst and Quavis, and two older sisters, Trilishia and Sierra. She plans to major in business at UNCP.

“Ieshia is a strong combo guard who can put the ball on the floor and also stretch the defense with her 3-point shooting,” Haskins said.
