LUMBERTON — The St. Pauls and Red Springs football teams won on Friday to keep their playoff hopes alive and both were the only teams in Robeson County claim victories.

Here’s some of the top performers from Week 10.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Red Springs: The Red Devils pulled out their second close win over an in-county opponent on Friday with a 18-12 overtime victory over Fairmont. The win was the first victory over Fairmont since 2012 and avenged back-to-back losses to the Golden Tornadoes in close fashion. It took a defensive stand with less than four minutes to go in the game and a last-minute touchdown drive to set up overtime, where a trick-play, running back pass was the winning score.

EYE POPPING PERFORMANCES

Noah Wheeler, QB, St. Pauls: The Bulldogs’ signal caller had a career game against West Bladen, accounting for seven touchdowns, six rushing, and 186 yards on the ground in the blowout win. Last year’s Robeson County offensive player of the year, has scored 14 touchdowns in the last three weeks. He had five touchdowns in the first half to help St. Pauls jump out to a 41-12 lead.

Lee McLean, RB, Red Springs: The sophomore back became the first rusher to eclipse the 1,000 yard rushing mark in the win over Fairmont after rushing for 123 yards on 28 carries.
