HILLSBOROUGH — Orange High School linebacker Payton Wilson, who earlier this year committed to UNC, announced on Twitter Friday that he was committing to play football at N.C. State.

Wilson, a four-star recruit, announced he was opening up his recruitment on Nov. 22 and was on the sidelines for the Wolfpack’s 33-21 win over UNC last Saturday. His family hosted N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren on Thursday night for an in-home visit.

In October the 6-foot-4, 225-pound linebacker tore his ACL to end his high school career prematurely. He is currently in rehab and will graduate from high school in December and enrolling early at N.C. State.

Ranked the No. 3 recruit in North Carolina according to 247Sports, Wilson had 610 yards of total offense and nine touchdowns as a running back for the Panthers, and tallied 103 tackles, 10 sacks and 21 tackles for loss on defense.
