PEMBROKE — The Purnell Swett boys basketball team won its first Sandhills Athletic Conference game of the year with a 57-49 win over Jack Britt at UNCP on Thursday.

The Rams (3-4, 1-3) were tied with the Buccaneers at 38-all heading into the fourth quarter, and used a late run to come out on top. Leading 46-44 with just a little more than four minutes to go in the game, Purnell Swett closed on a 11-5 run.

Leading Purnell Swett in scoring was Kyler Page with 17 points, Xavier Jones with 13 points and Kalan Locklear and Darriante Parker each with 10 points. Jack Britt was led by Calvin Washingston with 25 points.

In the girls game, Jack Britt topped Purnell Swett 44-23. Lauren Moore scored 18 points in the win for the Lady Bucs. Purnell Swett’s Hayleigh Musselwhite scored a team-high seven points and Chelsea Jones added six points.

Purnell Swett returns to the hardwood to play at Red Springs in the first round of the Robeson County Shootout on Wednesday.
